rica_bio_picprofileRica has recently graduated from Rishikesh Yog Peeth (In Northern India), a registered yoga school (RYS) with Yoga Alliance. She first discovered yoga while living in Pakistan and it was love at first sight. Her love of Yoga has taken her to Bali and Rishikesh; which is known as the birthplace of yoga. She has attained her certification on Hatha yoga, which describes any of th ephysical practices of yoga. Apart from her RYS 200 certification from Rishikesh, she has also a 200 hour certification from Bali.  She was born in Bangladesh, currently living in Jakarta with her Norwegian husband. She's been doing yoga in the Indian Cultural center in Jakarta for the past two years. In her prior life she has worked in corporate banking and telecom in both corporate sales and marketing for multinational companies. After years of over-working in the demanding corporate world (and hardly having any time for physical activities), Rica decided to make a career break and explore world: that's when she discovered the magic and power of yoga. Apart from her passion for yoga she loves traveling, hiking, reading and to visit different cultures and meet new people. Rica has been active member of AWA since May 2011.

Rica's view on yoga: "Yoga is the best possible exercise there is for improving suppleness. Regular yoga practice benefits all aspects of your being, strengthening your body, renewing your energy, calming your mind and brightening your spirit. Remember, yoga is a process, and there are no deadlines: You have a lifetime to improve your strength and flexibility.

Newcomers Coffee Morning

The Newcomers' Coffee is for all new arrivals and serves as an informal orientation to the “ins and outs” of living in Jakarta. This is a venue for meeting other new arrivals to Jakarta and learning more about your new community. Colliers International, along with several AWA Board members, address issues that are unique to the first-timer living in Jakarta. Tips on hiring staff, finding a house, cleaning fruits and vegetables, and keeping your family safe in Indonesia are among the topics covered. AWA’s exclusive caterer, The Upper Crust, provides sweet and savory treats. There is no cost to attend this meeting, and it is open to everyone. This is a great way to socialize and to learn about activities at AWA, as well as to make new friends in a relaxed, casual environment. Newcomer's Coffee morning is held every first Tuesday of each month. Please RSVP to Bev Dube at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if you’d like to attend.

  JANUARY

The Carnation, comes in several different colors to convey different meanings, much like roses. A pink carnation means affection, while a red carnations means regret that a love is not shared, and yellow means rejection or diappointment. The other January flowe is the snowdrop, which used to considered bad luck due to the fact that it would always seem to appear to grow in graveyards. Nowadays, it signifies hope and beauty.

Birthstone: Garnet
